I'm pretty sure that this is Coyote scat. I'm only posting it because the hair in the scat is unusual - very shiny and chestnut-colored. It looks a lot like Muskrat or Mink hair.

Polyphemus Moth is a tentative identification. Cocoon was found attached to a Maple leaf under a Maple tree. Cocoon was badly dented and guessing that it was not viable, I cut it open. The inner cocoon is apparently intact - no holes, dents or cuts, and it seems solid and appropriately heavy. I have it in an outdoor rearing cage and if it ecloses I will post it with a link to this post. The other object is a completely dessicated grub/larva/caterpillar that was inside the outer cocoon and right next to the inner cocoon. I'd love to know what it is and how it got there. There were no visible holes in the outer cocoon.

The ventral edge of this valve is strangely thickened and split into two edges. It is so thick that when I first picked it up I thought it was two valves stuck together. The thickest part is ventral to the pallial line but the entire anterior end of the valve is thicker than normal. Found dead at river's edge.
