Fotos / SonsWhatPuma (Puma concolor)ObservadoresophieaDescriçãoTracks in a well traveled arroyo of Saguaro National Park West. Tracks were less than 7 days old (deposited after a rainfall event on Jan 28/29, 2021). Trackset was long and well defined, consisting of over 100 prints. Animal headed upstream, generally west. |

Fotos / SonsWhatPuma (Puma concolor)ObservadoresophieaDescriçãoTrack set in Tucson Mountain Park, at urban interface. Tracks headed down an arroyo, heading northeast. Track age difficult to establish because of the coarse substrate: estimate more than 2 days old, but less than 1 week. I suspect this is the same animal that I observed tracks from, in a nearby arroyo (on the other side of the ridge). Track characteristics were undeniably typical of P. concolor: three lobed plantar pad, asymmetrical toe layout, gap between toes and pad forming the typical "C" shape. |

The description for this field does not assign any probabilities to the three options provided. I suggest these ranges, which I will use as guidelines:
low: P < 30%;
medium: 30%, <= P <= 80% (#);
high: P > 80%.
# Medium confidence implies more than 80% confidence in the taxon immediately above: for example, 30% confidence about the species but 90% confidence about the genus. Otherwise, "low" confidence must be chosen.
This is just a suggestion, of course: an attempt to ensure some consistency in how this field is used by several people.
I assume this applies to the first identification and I will use this field solely for that purpose: as we get more contributions from other users, the identification confidence will hopefully increase.
