2 - first stages: some specimens of invasive alien species were seen at the site but it may be easy to remove them (single intervention by a couple of people, for less than a couple of hours, using bare hands or just manual tools, eventually with a couple of visits in the following months or years).
(Abbreviated tag: "invasion: 2 - beginning")
5 - nearly irreversible: the removal of invasive alien species and ecosystem restoration would require intensive and long-term intervention, not only at the site but also in the vicinity, for many years or several decades. Though theoretically possible, it would require excessive resources, unlikely to be available for such an extended period.
(Abbreviated tag: "invasion: 5 - overwhelming")
6 - irreversible invasion: some native species are still present at the site but they are unable to compete with the invasive alien species and are likely to disappear within a decade. Moreover, the density of invasive alien species is so high (with seeds and/or roots all over the place) that even a massive intervention with appropriate machinery would be insufficient to revert the invasion. Through repeated intervention, it may be possible to control the density of invasive alien species in order to prevent the total disappearance of native species, but not more than that.
(Abbreviated tag: "invasion: 6 - irreversible")
7 - uncontrollable invasion: the density of invasive alien species is so high (including seeds in the soil, sprouts from the roots, etc.) that it is no longer feasible to prevent the growth of more invasive plants at the site. The remaining patches of native vegetation will inexorably be replaced by the invasive alien species within a few years.
(Abbreviated tag: "invasion: 7 - uncontrollable")
9 - full invasion: the invasive alien species have occupied the whole site, changing the environment in their favour (soil composition, shading, etc.) and displacing almost all native species. The only remaining native species are the ones that can coexist with the invasive alien species or perhaps benefit from them (for example fungi that are able to feed from the organic matter in the soil).
(Abbreviated tag: "invasion: 9 - complete")

0 - no invasion: known invasive alien species were not seen at the site or in its vicinity. Invasion is unlikely to occur in the following decade or more, even without preemptive intervention.
(Abbreviated tag: "invasion: 0 - absent")
