Northwest Community Park, Fort Worth

We met another naturalist at our usual home park, Arcadia, who told us he had recently visited Northwest Community Park and that it was a little wilder and had more wildlife. This is a fairly new park and still being developed but has handicapped accessible side walks for circling through the south side of the park for those that need that. There are dirt trails off from the main pathway in several places. The park is beside Big Fossil Creek which forms a small lake at this point. In a couple hour period we made quite a few observations The wild flowers are just beginning to come out. There is a lot more of the park that I hope to get back and explore. An old stone train bridge is at one end of the lake. There is also a fishing pier. It has very little parking which I understand is a problem on week ends but great during the week. The road into the park is not paved. I set this park up as a place on iNaturalist as best as I could so we could begin to record its life forms.

Wow! Sounds like a cool place to check out. I looked up info and pictures about it. Some had some problems with vandalism and others did not and liked the park very much. Eric and I will be checking that out, hopefully soon. Thanks For posting this. Little late at looking at this post, but now I know about this park. Thanks.

Thank you Bob and Judith for posting this. My husband was just as excited as I was to see a few Monarchs and Queen Butterflies. My husband and I went to this park today. It was very sunny and hot! This park has a long gravel driveway with big open fields on both sides of the drive that leads up to a concrete parking lot.
For all you nature enthusiast, if you visit in the heat and sun, take water, maybe an umbrella to keep some of the sun off of you, as there is no shade on the concrete walking path. It does have a picnic area. We walked over to a path by the parking lot and it looks over a small water fall and down below you can see fish and turtles in the clear water. The Lake is very clean and clear, you can see fish swimming around. I took pictures of little Perch or Sun fish, a boy was catching one after the other with his glow worm on the nice pier. Someone was out in a kayak. I took pictures of the Great Egret and different types of Dragonflies, like Black Saddle Bags, Eastern Pond Hawks, Blue Dashers, and a few others I have to upload because I am not sure what they are. I found lots of Grasshoppers. Different types of Plants native to the area. I did not see little insects or tiny bugs. However I did see one Wheel bug, my first one. It is a nice little park. It was peaceful and relaxing even with the heat. I could see where fall weather could bring lots of birds to this nice clean open Park. I am going to visit it in the Fall and again in the Spring of next year just to see what has changed or different birds and insects I might see.✌🏻

So glad you got to go see it. Definitely will be even more enjoyable when it is not so hot. It would be a lot of fun to have a kayak there.
