We hiked the River Rapids Trail and Baynard Trail on 2018-09-01. The River Rapids Trail began wet, but was otherwise in good shape. Baynard Trail was entirely flooded, to the point of being impassable for its final hundred meters or so.

175 Watt Metal Halide against a vertical white sheet. Lights on ca. 8 PM, off ca. 9 PM EST. Weather overcast, turning to light rain.

Location: La Jolla Shores, around Scripps Pier
Time: Early Afternoon
Purpose: Photograph and Identify Shorebirds
Sightings: Several non-native cultivated plants, a few intertidal invertebrates, Marbled Godwit, Western Willet, and Whimbrels, along with some sandpipers I just can't pin down. Also both Western and Heerman's Gulls.

Location: Long Beach, CA, near Aquarium of the Pacific and Rainbow Lagoon
Time: Mid-Afternoon
Purpose: Explore the Area
Sightings: Many Round Stingrays in Rainbow Lagoon, as well as colonies of sea squirts and tiny anemones I was unable to photograph clearly. On the jetty by the aquarium, there was a large variety of birds.

Time: Late Afternoon
Purpose: None
Sightings: Loquat, Brazilian Pepper Tree, Honeybees, Argentine Ants, and Spanish (Milk) snail.

Location: Buena Vista Park, Vista, CA
Time: Late Morning/Early Afternoon
Purpose: Catalog Biodiversity in Buena Vista Park
Sightings: Three different colonies of honeybees, Red-eared Sliders, Red Tailed Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Common Gallinule, and both the red and white-shielded morphs of the American Coot.

Location: La Jolla Cove, and Scripps Pier in the morning
Oceanside Pier and Marina in the afternoon
Purpose: Show my Father around the Area
Sightings: Large number (counted 41) harbor seals on the beach at La Jolla cove, and sea lions. Shore birds around Scripps Pier, and by the lagoon next to Oceanside Marina. Sea lion, ground squirrels by the marina.

Location: Oceanside Marina and Adjacent Beach
Time: 2 - 5 PM
Purpose: Collect Owl Limpets to Eat
Sightings: Ochre Sea Star, Limpets, Willet, Kelp. Also a young Raccoon hiding between the rocks of the breakwater to the South of the Marina.

Location: Rocky Shoreline from Coast Blvd Park to just past Scripps Park
Time: 1-3 PM
Purpose: Photograph Coastal Biodiversity
Sightings: Many Intertidal Invertebrates, Gulls, Sandpipers, Cormorants, Pelicans, Seals, Sea Lions. Also California Ground Squirrel above the tide line.
