Observed on a single tree, low branch
a dense stand of hemlocks growing next to the historic location of a population of Chamaelirium luteum plants, that grew there prior to deer abundance in the area.
many trees lining the top edge of the cliff where Medeola virginiana was common before deer abundance.
Looks like a catalpa...new plant for me!
Coniferous tree in CVNP near ledges overlook. Leaves/needles are arranged alternately and have a glaucous coating and 2 distinct whitish bands on underside of needles. Unlike other hemlocks needles are not whorled around twigs- appear flat. Bark is ridged/scaled and light brown/gray
