This week 2/28/2024 I saw a eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus Carolinensis) I saw this squirrel in my back yard where there is an oak tree likely the squirrel was looking for acorns from this tree. The weather for the day was rainy with a high of 60 degrees a low of 23 degrees and winds south west at 15mph.
This week I observed an Eastern Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) in Butler, PA. Eastern Grey Squirrels are very common in our area and are characterized by their grey/brown fur, white belly, and large bushy tail. They tend to weigh about 1-1.5 pounds and are around 16-21 inches long.
The weather on this day (02/26/24) was 41°f (high: 59°f, low: 32°f), slightly windy and sunny.
Eastern Grey Squirrels prefer wooded areas because it provides them with the most food. They like to eat nuts and seeds which is what this squirrel was doing when I saw him. These squirrels are known to have a very good sense of smell which helps them find food that they have hidden away. They are also very smart!
