Dry sunny conditions. dirt is hard and dry. Soft leaves with waxy texture. many other plants of this kind in immediate vicinity. located in area with high foot traffic.
The field was full of tall grasses and had several of this specimens species nearby it in flower. Most of the flowers were white but a few were purple.
Annual or biennial. Seems to hybridize. Variable flower color, this one purple with dark veins. 4 petals. Pinnately lobed leaves with dentate margins.
This gravid female Pseudacris hypochondriaca was found by Marion Preest, Erin Baumler, and Maya Higgins in the new toad pond just south of pHake Lake at the Claremont Colleges' Bernard Field Station. Collected on 7 March 2010; photographed on 9 March 2010.
