Obs for the right ootheca (egg mass). The left one looks like a South African ootheca (Miomantis caffra)? Both on the underside of a magnolia leaf.

Growing on the edge of the track with gorse. Tanekaha dominant forest.

Growing on top of old scoria rock wall beside footpath. Two other clumps 50 mts away on each side of this one.

This one had a small 'face' just below the back of the head! Resting on leaf litter in native bush.

Most likely ship rat (Rattus rattus) as nest in tree hollow. In the shots female is up to the right and babies are suckling.

Slipped out from under mamaku fronds in native bush by a driveway, then disappeared back into the bush.

Puffball found by Ambury Regional Park ranger.

Several wash-ups along the beach with empty cells, one had cells occupied.

Found in moss below a fallen tree trunk crossing the track, beside a small bush stream.

I think ... unfamiliar with this plant. Growing on a rocky outcrop along with Phyllocladus toatoa. Top third of the track up to Mt Te Aroha, 952m, the highest point in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park.

Mass stranding with millions spread along a long exposed coast line

Growing under a cliff on scrubby, weedy, grassy dunes.

Freshly washed up, outgoing tide. Common along the strand line, small and large.

On a log washed up the beach, on the side of a stream.

Resting on a window outside, drawn to lights inside. Regenerating native bush and exotic plants.

Both chicks banded. Parents around. Should fledge in 2-3 weeks if all goes well. Fingers crossed.
